Oxford’s Act on Acceptance campaign has been running since 1st October, to inform academics & researchers about open access policy and our new ‘quick deposit’ service. From now on researchers should deposit all newly-accepted articles and conference papers in our repository, Oxford Research Archive (ORA), within 3 months of acceptance for publication – to be eligible for the next REF and improve the accessibility of research.
Please go to Act on Acceptance to find out more and Deposit your work.
The response has been good: over 1100 deposits were processed in October and November by ORA staff, a mixture of newly-accepted manuscripts, plus ‘back catalogue’ items including book chapters, for practice. The deposit rate now exceeds 150 per week. Please help the ORA team by depositing the correct version (normally the author version, not typeset version or publisher pdf).
The first person to #actonacceptance was Professor Nicholas Halmi, English Faculty. The 1000th deposit came from Associate Professor Louise Locock, Dept of Primary Health Care Sciences. A recurring comment on the new process: ‘it’s quicker and easier than I thought’. Many thanks to all who have tried it – keep it up!
The University has worked hard to provide a user-friendly system which minimises the burden for authors. Once you’ve deposited the peer-reviewed manuscript and basic information such as article title and date of acceptance, the OA team ‘take care of the rest’ (check copyright, create ORA record and make full-text available after embargo) and can also help with funder requirements e.g. RCUK or Wellcome Trust.
Our growing REF FAQ page covers the topics which crop up most, e.g. date of acceptance (when all changes made and ready to go), versions, and what happens next. If you have queries about Symplectic Elements including account set-up please ask your Symplectic Departmental Contact in the first instance.
Open Access briefings are taking place across the University. If you need to request one for your department or have other questions, please contact your Subject Librarian or email openaccess@bodleian.ox.ac.uk.
Our next general session is on Thursday 21 January 2016, 11.00-12.00, Radcliffe Science Library (book here).
